They’re just people.

How many aspiring writers watch a movie like Julie and Julia and are inspired to write and make your mark? Read the Harry Potter series and thought man, I’d give my left dangly part to come up with an idea for a series like this? Cried, laughed, got angry and wanted to touch people the way someone else’s art just reached deep into your emotions?

What do all of these artists have in common though? They are just regular people who had a dream and pursued it. Any of us can do it right? Nobody said it would be easy but it is possible.

I watched the film Julie and Julia and decided I was going to read and write about reading The Artists Way by Julia Cameron. Hey there was a Julia in there so that was a good start right?

I went on a couple of ‘Artist Dates’, wrote a few entries but I couldn’t get past all of the talk about God or good orderly direction. I wanted to become a better artist. I gave up. I’m sure it’s a great book and no offence to God or religion or even Julia, but it wasn’t for me.

Julie Powell’s fame might be an example of being careful of what you wish for as her marriage certainly took a hit through the process but the determination and the idea was none-the-less inspiring and smart.

Who among us hasn’t dreamed of being famous? I was going to be a professional hockey player, than an animator for Walt Disney, and later a well-renowned author. I guess if you’re able to start making money off of your art you likely become at least semi-famous and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t dream of inspiring more than my family, but nothing at the expense of straying from who I am or valuable and precious time taken away from my family.

I assume I need at least some overarching theme so my ‘audience’ knows what they are getting themselves into.

On the Road with Jack and Julia. That’s what I called my posts about The Artists Way. I was also reading Jack Kerouac’s On The Road. I wasn’t actually on any road though. I guess the road of life.

I mean I have a title already so I guess that’s figured out whether I like that split second decision or not I’m sticking with it.

So what are we doing here just you? Just me?
